Caving Adventure Plughole Cave - Jenolan caves Sydney

Now that the highest mountains have been climbed the great rivers discovered and all the jungles penetrated discovering the underground world of mazes rivers and caverns is one of the last frontiers open to the explorer. Caves are one of the few places you can visit where it is possible no one has been before you. Don't expect ladders with handrails and coloured lights - the caves we explore are wild and as such have no adornments under 100 000 years old. Caving is a technically diverse sport utilising skills and equipment from rock-climbing abseiling and sometimes SCUBA diving (cave diving). The entrances are generally small holes in the ground. Sometimes we crawl into them often we have to abseil in which is perfect for vertigo sufferers - you can't see the bottom! Once inside the caves are like a subterranean playground. There are pitches to climb tunnels to crawl through and pools of water so clear you can see formations many fathoms below. Decked out in overalls helmets and headlights looking somewhat like a miner caving adventures begin with a safety and equipment briefing. You will enter Plughole by abseiling (weather permitting) into the ‘Sinkhole’ and swirling into Elder cave to negotiate a series of climbs crawls and tight squeezes. Before worming your way through the 'S' bend tunnels resembling the PVC piping under your bathroom sink. This is an amazing two-hour introductory caving experience.
